Q&A Summary
Is there any option for demo engineering license request?
Yes absolutely.
zenon Engineering Studio and Runtime can be easily installed on any Windows-based host, such as PC or Laptop. After installation, you can directly use the system in demo-mode. Which limits you in time and session starts.
If you need an extended demo license or license for permanent use, just get in contact with your local COPA-DATA sales representative or drop us a note: energy@copdata.com.
In the HMI zenon studio SCL Data model mapping with Template is confused, reason Ex. In the Feeder module Almost 12 or more Data models available.
It is true, that IEC 61850-based data models can be quite extensive. The file-import dialog in zenon allows to narrow down the proposed datapoints by filtering. Only the relevant datapoints should then be imported (generated) in the engineering system. zenon is designed to work with projects which contain up to several 100k TAGs.
Which protocols are supported by zenon Engineering Studio?
zenon supports up to 300 different protocols from the automation industry. See also: https://onlinehelp.copadata.com/, section "Service Engine Drivers".
Does it support 61850 Server?
Yes, zenon supports also IEC 61850 Server. Beside this, it can run as IEC 61850 GOOSE publisher and subscriber.
Is it possible to change symbols for presentation on HMI (CB, DC and so on)?
Yes, it is totally free which graphics you want to show. We have libraries with prepared symbols to select: ANSI or IEC.
Is the simulator integrated into zenon? Can it simulate any kind of 61850 device?
Yes, the simulator is integrated in zenon and can simulate all kind of data and behavior.
Do you have protection devices from specific brands ready in the libary?
We have ready to use templates for a few IEDs. In general, templates can be created / extended by anybody who uses the zenon Engineering Studio. We create templates as we need them in our projects. So do our customers and integrators.
If the RTU is an IEC-104 compliant, can I still use the library?
Generic templates (Smart Objects, Symbols) can be used on any protocol. There are different ways to adapt the (generic) template´s data model to the protocol in use: Either through a simple change of protocol driver in the source template, or through variable mapping.
Can I integrate two zenon servers, so that I read the values of specific variables into the new zenon server?
Yes, in IEC 61850 one Server (e.g. protection device) can provide data to multiple Clients (e.g. substation HMI, Test System, RTU etc.). There could be multiple zenon Servers act as Client to a single Server. This is generally the case, for instance, if you use redundant zenon servers (hot standby).
Are multiple iec61850 driver client sessions allowed, how many IEDs are supported max?
It is possible to run several instances of the IEC 61850 driver and on each instance several server-connections can run. The driver is certified - but not limited - for 1000 IEDs. In this case you would run 50 instances with 20 connections each.
I want zenon to receive data via dynamic reporting. Is it possible to choose any Data Object out of the whole Data Model in order to create a dynamic Dataset?
Yes, dynamic datasets are supported by the IEC 61850 driver.
Can different editions (1 or 2) of IEC61850 be adopted in a project?
Yes, in zenon you can mix Ed.1 and Ed.2 devices. This is common practice and is done in many projects already.
What is the communication capability of IEC61850 driver? What is the maximum devices and signals can it handle at one project?
It is possible to run several instances of the IEC 61850 driver and on each instance several server-connections can run. The driver is certified - but not limited - for 1000 IEDs. In this case you would run 50 instances with 20 connections each.
Internal tests have shown that with 1000 IEDs 100,000 signal changes per second can be handled.
Can you create your own symbols?
Yes. The creation of graphic symbols and smart symbols (so called zenon Smart Objects) is possible in the zenon Engineering Studio. You can also use templates which come with the product, and eventually change/extend them to your needs.
Can the runtime environment support more than 1 instances? For example, Single Line diagram, alarm page and events page at the same time?
Yes absolutely, it is possible to run different pages in parallel. This allows you to create all sorts of arrangements for visualization screens.
Is the HMI example based on standard libraries, delivered as standard in zenon?
Yes, the sample project is freely available. You can download the project (workspace backup) from the download page of this webinar. Alternatively, just or drop us a note, if you need any other demo project: energy@copdata.com.
Is this only available for zenon Energy Edition?
Specific features which were demonstrated in the webinar, such as line coloring, command processing or the use of energy drivers (IEC 850, DNP3, IEC870 etc.) are available with zenon energy edition.
